A $25 million makeover turning six Food 4 Less discount grocers in the Las Vegas Valley into Smith’s Food & Drug stores is nearing completion.

Management will reopen the stores as Smith’s on the morning of March 4. Each store underwent more than $4 million in renovations, according to a news release today.

Both brands are owned by Cincinnati-based grocery powerhouse Kroger Co.

The changeover comes after executives said in October that Food 4 Less would exit the Las Vegas Valley market by closing eight locations and turning six others into Smith’s. All employees were expected to have job offers with Smith’s.

At the time, Food 4 Less spokeswoman Kendra Doyel said some of the stores had been underperforming and that leaving the market was “a business decision.” She declined to go into further detail.

All 800 Food 4 Less employees in the area now work at local Smith’s stores, including the new ones, today’s news release said.

The remodeled stores are:

• 4001 S. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas

• 3602 E. Bonanza Road, Las Vegas

• 4965 E. Sahara Ave., Las Vegas

• 8180 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas

• 2255 Las Vegas Blvd. North, North Las Vegas

• 3013 W. Craig Road, North Las Vegas
