South Point poker website gets final approval

South Point’s online poker website, Real Gaming, received final approval from state gambling regulators today.

Real Gaming became the third real-money online poker site to operate in Nevada when it went live in February. Initially, the site was in a trial period, which the state Gaming Control Board and Gaming Commission ended today at a meeting in Carson City.

Real Gaming offers poker play and tournaments on mobile and desktop devices. The website developed its own software, rather than turning to a platform developed by an outside partner.

It is joined in the Nevada online poker marketplace by Ultimate Poker, backed by Station Casinos, and the World Series of Poker, backed by Caesars Entertainment.

Later at its meeting today, the Gaming Commission gave final approval of a local gaming operator to expand the Hard Rock brand in the Lake Tahoe area.

Warner Gaming, which also operates the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, is undertaking a $60 million transformation of the former Horizon in Stateline. Once completed, the new Hard Rock will boast a 25,000-square-foot casino floor and more than 500 remodeled rooms.

Warner intends to focus on attracting millennial customers by focusing on entertainment and other nongaming amenities. Renovations should be complete in January.
