Thermo Fisher donated laboratory equipment to three Clark County middle schools: C.W. Woodbury Middle School, Lyal Burkholder Middle School and John C. Fremont Professional Development Middle School. The equipment included meters for accurate liquid sample measurement in the classroom and testers for on-the-go water analysis. In addition, Thermo Fisher provided goggles, apron gloves and other lab equipment.

The Patrick Kelley Youth Foundation gave new bicycles, helmets and locks to 100 students of Dean Peterson and C.T. Sewell elementary schools who were enrolled in After-School All-Stars Las Vegas.

William and Susan Walters donated $100,000 to Nathan Adelson Hospice’s “Serenades of Life — Doctors in Concert” fundraiser, which aids the hospice’s Bonnie Schreck Memorial Complementary Therapies program.

Northwest Career & Technical Academy students built “Buddy Benches,” part of an anti-bullying initiative, for 11 elementary schools. WGU Nevada sponsored the materials for each bench and DC Building Group was responsible for installing them.

Henderson Girl Scouts Emily Cox, Madison Prehn and Catelyn Higgins oversaw the construction of a new bird enclosure at the Lion Habitat Ranch. It will be a home for Watson, an African Grey parrot.

Andson, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating, informing, and inspiring youth and young adults by delivering innovative programs in academics, financial literacy and mentoring, honored local leaders at the Faces of the Future Breakfast, including: Faces of Education – Dr. Christy Beaird, principal at Laura Dearing Elementary School, and Ben Salkowe, founding principal at Equipo Academy; Faces of the Future – Honoring students from Andson’s Financial Literacy and Academic Programs; Faces of Empowerment – Las Vegas Clark County Library District and Foundation

The Mellen Program for Multiple Sclerosis at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health received $1 million from the Eric and Sheila Samson Foundation to establish the Samson Chair for Multiple Sclerosis Research. Dr. Le Hua, director of the Mellen Program, is the inaugural chairwoman and will use the funds to accelerate research initiatives.

Metro Pizza donated $1,200 to the American Heart Association. The money came from the sale of nearly 500 heart-shaped pizzas.

Three people joined the Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada board of directors: Ruben Sigala, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Caesars Entertainment; Heather Harris, Wish Mom and partner, Harris & Harris Lawyers; and Edgar Valazquez, vice president, segment team manager, Bank of America.

Jim Thorpe Elementary School’s STEM program received a classroom makeover from Ikea.

Tyson Foods donated more than 31,000 pounds of protein to Three Square Food Bank.

Douglas Coombs is the CEO of Habitat for Humanity.

Working with Whiting-Turner Contracting, Habitat for Humanity Las Vegas expanded the ReStore location at 4580 W. Sahara Ave. Suite 120. Whiting-Turner donated more than $130,000 in materials and services. Other supporting businesses included SH Architecture, Helix Electric, Performance Contracting Inc., Ahern Rentals, J.A. Messenger, Bombard Mechanical, Diamond Concrete Cutting, American Air Balance and FSI Specialty Products & Services.

Essence Vegas donated more than $14,500 to Veterans Village Las Vegas.

Southern Nevada Children First honored people and businesses who support their mission to help homeless, pregnant and parenting teens and young adults. Pien Koopman, Sybil Jones, Janice Harris and Toni Mims were named “most valuable.” Lou Collins was recognized as “community humanitarian” and Station Casinos was awarded the “Act of Kindness.”

More than $50,000 was raised at Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School’s “Illuminating the Arts” showcase benefiting the school’s Fine Arts programs.

The Allstate Foundation donated to various Southern Nevada agencies. The volunteer work of agency owners and financial specialists Patrick Becker, Elisa Conner, James Bell, John Cleveland, Kevin Walker, Mark Taylor, Melissa Hudson, Debbie Gault, Gary Porfert, Jayna Magliaro, Joel Gonzalez, Justin Loeber, Linda Baumann, Maria Madrid, Mark Crowson, Marty Martinez, Michael Gross, Robert Beck, Tim Hacker, William Duran and Yvette Beck helped secure $28,000 to support PSI World. Other donations included:

• Andson Foundation Inc. received $1,000 as a result of Rosalie Gonzalez’s volunteerism.

• Junior League of Las Vegas Inc. received $1,000 as a result of Gonzalez’s volunteerism.

• Bonanza High School Step Team received $1,000 as a result of Dwain Frazier’s volunteerism.

• The Boy Scouts of America received $1,000 as a result of Tom Prince’s volunteerism.

• The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada received $1,000 as a result of Rachel Guardado’s volunteerism.

• Help of Southern Nevada received $2,000 as a result of Guardado and Maria Madrid’s volunteerism.

• Street Teens received $1,000 as a result of Guardado’s volunteerism.

• CHS Memorial Stone received $1,000 as a result of Martinez’s volunteerism.

• Gentleman by Choice Community Development Corp. received $1,000 as a result of Martinez’s volunteerism.

• Goodie Two Shoes Foundation received $1,000 as a result of Veronica Nicholson’s volunteerism.

• Nevada Broadcasters Foundation received $1,000 as a result of Maria Miuccio’s volunteerism.

• Signature Productions received $1,000 as a result of Gregory Robinson’s volunteerism.

• Three Square received $1,000 as a result of Samuel Peter’s volunteerism.

• The Children’s Charity of Southern Nevada received $1,000 as a result of Joe Webster’s volunteerism.
